Thailand flood situation 2011

I'm sure by now the Thai flood crisis has been hitting news headlines for the past 2 weeks. Indeed, one of the worst floods in 50 years, things seem so surreal, Ayutthaya province that I visited 2-3 years ago is in one of the worst situations. The water is inching into Bangkok, flooding Chinatown and Don Meaung airport which are about an hr or so away.

Nearing the end of last Friday, there were threats that waters could overflow into the capital. Thus, the Thai Government declared a five-day holiday from Thursday to Monday for people to evacuate. The extend of it was unclear with the onset of a seasonal high tide approaching around... TODAY.

Preparations for flood in Bangkok:

Many shops pilling on sandbags and makeshift wall barriers.

Water getting scarce; 27 Oct.

Toilet paper and diapers totally sold out.

For the past few days, the waiting was getting unnerving. Dad advised that I should leave to South Thailand. There was news yesterday that the area 3 BTS stops away from my place was flooded. Therefore, in 2 hrs, I made a decision to leave, packed and managed to book a hotel in Pattaya(despite 2 failed booking attempts). Really, I felt like I ran a marathon after my bookings.

Currently, I have safely arrived in Pattaya via a 2hr bus ride.

Praying for the better soon as many provincial areas have been in 2-3m of water for months.

Drinking water in Bangkok

Those who have been to Bangkok for vacation would have seen signs customary pasted in front of Hotel sinks, warning you not to drink the tap water. This left an impression for me back then on my first visit as a tourist. Imagine, in sleepy tranquil holiday mood, the unfamiliar message stops-you-in your-gurgle (chokes* and chokes*!!!).
OMG, did I drink any of the water?!!

It was a distant sweet dream (back in Singapore), the basic routine of waking up in the morning, drowsily fetching a glass of H2O from the kitchen. Everyone here in Thailand drinks mineral water. That means, buy it, drag it, lug cartons of it back home and "7-eleven" is not convenience, it is haven.

Luckily, every soi (street) or corner has this 'Reverse Osmosis Water Vending machine' since idon'tknowwhen. My current apartment has one on the ground floor. 1 baht every morning for filling 2/3 of my jug.

A glimpse into AI Fashion show 2011

A peaceful year without any political unrest had us streamlining through our 3rd and 4th semester. Finally, our 2011 AI fashion show was showcased at Siam Paragon on 7th May according to schedule.

Working one semester ahead, our class of 8 harmonized as a company to present a collection. Each of us worked on one design with the overall show theme:
" Not in the sky, not underground"
"~ an Italian inspiration~"

Our conceptualised collection was based on the 1960s film "La Dolce Vita" (the sweet life).

However, we envisioned our own story of a woman going for her romantic first date.

~She wants something feminine with a hint of sex appeal. Comfort is also key.

The colours would be soft, the texture light. ~

So each of us got down to business.

Before getting all fancy sewing, mad mathematics was done for my dress proportion.

Perfecting my corset cup for months and 3 prototypes later... I QUIT!

Nah~ Just kidding~ I was finally ready to make the actual outfit.

Lots of hand-stitching for the lace and ruffles.

Used a luscious double sided material for the contrast of the corset, exquisite lace and silk chiffon.

Only the best for the lady on her first date~

Getting a little stressed, only sketched 4 final drawings for one subject so far (this week) and there's much more to be completed actually. Seriously behind time but I'm quite tired to continue now.

Living in Bangkok: New Year, New Friends 2011

While waiting for my lotus soup to boil... let me post some good stuff.

I've decided to update my blog more often. Actually, technically speaking, not more often but often enough as planned. Have so many interesting places that I've been to but not posted yet.

So, here's my Living in Bangkok escapade!

This Year, I met some new friends. I can't help but wonder how sometimes, events happen sequentially that link us to other incidences.

In this case, it's the introduction of new friends in my life.

I was kindly invited by my ex boss from 100 Tonson Gallery to a French fashion show by the French embassy, Bangkok.

4days back in Singapore and random stuff

Yippee! Last weekend I went back to SG to collect my new passport.
Gotta collect it personally, hence, all the trotting about.

Along the way, my Dad bought a camera for me, a Canon DSLR 550D for photography class. Wooots!

I was a little surprise as he reminded me about it.

So right now, I'm seriously happy.

Left my bunny boy with loads of food for 4 days:

Back in Singapore.

Went to 1-altitude.

Great choice suggested by my friend to view 360 degrees of the city from Level 62. Too bad I only brought my digicam and had this shitty picture. Felt a little sad to leave SG after a couple of drinks and emo-ness.

Nevertheless, now I am geared up for upcoming final projects. Mid-term grades sucked due to laziness :'(

We have to present a Streetwear for men collection, This time, with loads of restrictions on ie. materials and colours used.

The theme given is Diesel "Be Stupid." advertising campaign slogan.

Sounds easy?

Thought so, until I sat down to think... wait, can't think too much if not it becomes "Smart"!

Alexandre's birthday@ Face bar bangkok

Went for a fantastic birthday dinner for Alexandre. One of the most generous host he was.

We were invited to 'Face bar', my second time there, and the feel was totally different. First time, it was a fun and rowdy night with my friends, and this time it was a classy feel, depicting the character of our birthday boy. Even the music was chosen by him, lounge. Great taste.

Face Bar is an Asian-fusion themed bar. So, this bangkok branch is of Thai and Chinese decor, cuisine is Indian and Thai. We had Indian food.

Hung out at the bar afterwards. had a Caipiroska; watched the bartender crush fresh strawberries, brown sugar and the other ingredients together, looks so good!!!

My works and invitation to Fashion week

Last year, as a Semester 1 student, I had to beg, borrow and steal in front of Central Mall.

...Until this guy from Elle took pity on me and gave me one ticket!!! Woohoo!

Anyway these are some of my past works for Semester 1 in my old apartment. :)

Semester 1: Collection I.
So our first collection was to present 6 final outfits for Barbie based on any inspiration. My theme was "Cruise", just a very relaxed young lady going on a holiday.

Other than the mood board, sketchbooks, and usual presentation finals, we had to style a Barbie dolls as well! :D

Semester 2: Collection III:

Theme: "Fairies as lights"

I was inspired by the rainbow colours that bounced off the spotlights at my friend's house one day. And the topic evolved to fairies and what if they were part of our world, unseen to us.

What was their purpose? What is man's purpose then?

Semester 2: Collection IV:

Brief: Fast and Furious.

My theme: "Raw"

~If you ain't outta control, you ain't in control~

Inspired by all things bad. With pleasure comes pain. It's a message for us not to lose sight of ourselves. I also made a tattoo logo/ print for this collection.

Anyway, so for now in Semester 3, I am working on a textile collection currently while eating these Beryl's dark chocolates.

Year 2: We went for a Ghost exhibition to prepare for the theme of our next collection.
It will be based on myths and beliefs.

Yup, the entrance. They did a very good job!

The tattoo dress inspired by "beliefs".

In Asia, many believe tattoos can bring certain power to people, therefore, the inspiration.

Prof. Jovan said it's a good source that we can research on and I really like it, unfortunately, my last collection was already on Tattoos.

So, we had 1 month to come up with a collection.

Mohinga and Happy V - Favourite Myanmar and Filipino food

Mohinga is my favourite Myanmar food since poly days when I found out about its existence.

It's a soup based noodle dish made with fish stock. However, it's not like the Chinese clear broth type but rather 'saucy' as the fish meat is chopped up. Ingredients include, banana stem(supper crunchy and nice), parsley, fish cake, boiled eggs and topped with fried chickpeas. It is slightly spicy.

Accompanied by a glass of refreshing tamarind juice, and you'll feel in haven. Wee~

Filipino fried chicken: I highly recommend Jolly V or Happy V (changed their name recently) at Lau Par Sat. They sell really good Filipino fried chicken.

I tried Palabok with fried chicken this time. And it's love.

Palabok is a dry noodle dish made up with thick bee hoon and meat sauce. It's salty and sour (after you squeeze the lime on it), topped with fried pork bits and boiled eggs.

1960s Verner Panton exhibition - Counting down to 7 more weeks

Jewellery class at 11am. Trying to create this piece:

2.00pm: Farewell buffet after class with John and Andrewson at Straits Cafe.

John and Andrewson, my good pals and positive motivation thinkers! :D

Once again, learnt alot from Andrewson on life issues then we headed for the Verner Panton exhibition after lunch.

Panton's designed started in the 1960s, and look how modern it still looks now! Very minimalist.

Using non traditional materials and physics angles of reflection to create lights that do not glare.

How science and design creates such practical and presentable decor!

Reminds you of banana's doesn't it.

He explained(written description) that walking into a room with the coffee table and furniture laid out makes one feel trapped on location for hours, knowing it's a living room. Therefore, he created items of versatility so that guest can enjoy different views and angles from the same place.

After the exhibition, I headed to the French cafe 'Hediard' at Tudor court.

Killed time by threading the beads i needed to do before crocheting.

I call this the "beautiful mess" when i spilled the wrong coloured beaded. But i had time to admire the sparking mess because of time.

How i wish we won't be restricted by time, won't we feel happier everyday?

Thailand's ancient city, Ayutthaya

Made a trip to Bangkok with Ben in Feb this year.

Headed down to Accademia Italiana to check out the school environment on a Thursday night.

I flew alone for the first time and had regrets on the plane. By the time I reached the new Suvarnabhumi Airport, it was about 10:30pm. Ok for Singapore but it was quite dark and quiet in Bangkok, I don't know how to explain it. However, somehow, I felt a sense of peace and warmth when i reach and that dispelled all my negetive thoughts.

Took a cab to my hotel and spent the first day alone.

Ben joined me over that weekend and we did some sight-seeing after I was finished with checking out my school.

Wat Saket. We din't manage to climb this temple on the Golden Mount, closed when we reach but the place was soooo serene...

The next day, we took a train to Ayutthaya from Hua Lampong train station.

We arrived!
Ayutthaya, the ancient capital of Thailand, about 1:30hrs north from Bangkok.
The current site is a protected site by UNESCO.

Love this building and the stairs down are super steep and chilly, din't dare to go down.

It smells strongly of pigeon poop and is REALLY chilly...

Back to Bangkok, the all-so-famous Kaosan road heavily packed with Westerners.

Back to SG for another 6 months of work before leaving for studies.

Sneaking into Sentosa Cove & Skinny Pizza - Counting down to 8 weeks back to school

Thursday:

Hanged out with Vivian and Joycelyn. Went to 'Magaritas' in Dempsey.

Then sneaked into Sentosa Cove.

I had this inspiration there suddenly about the scent of the flowers that smelt so strong on the beach... as though it was meant for us only. Therefore this piece, i present you;

Saturday:

Jewellery class at 11am. Learning jewellery crochet.

(Made one exactly like this for my cousin but forgot to take a picture, anyways...)

and settled at 'Skinny pizza' in Suntec city, also always wanted to come here.

Went home and was forced to clean the air-con, wash 2 fans and fix my laptop. :(

7:00pm: Dinner at Ramen Santouka.
I think the food must be quite authentic because there were so many Japanese customers. The ambience was also very cosy.

I did my first self-taught drawing! Yay! It's my vision during meditation. Near the end of my meditations, I will always end it with a happy vision, sometimes its a vase stretch of green grass with the freshest air, so fresh that I could 'feel' the scent of the crisp grass. This time it's lavenders.

The Grandmother story

Well I found out that Yves Saint Laurent passed away on Sunday night at age 71. Another great creator gone. Please, please let Valentino and Karl Lagerfeld hang in there till I get to meet them in person.

So, I stumbled upon this designer called Schiaparelli. She lived through the WWII era along with fellow competitor CoCo Chanel. Her works evoke from Surrealism and she has worked together with fellow Surrealist like Salvador Dali.

One such creation was the Lobster dress.

Surrealism in a nutshell from my point: It's basically not thinking logically and applying that state of "illogical thought" to art work. It's all about embracing a sidetracked difference.

Anyway for the real meaning, you could always google.

Who could have thought a Lobster dress could look sooooooo... beyond beautiful!

DownTown East @E-hub. NEW mall!

Can't believe that the new mall just 2 bus stop down from my home is finally opened! Whooot!
E!hub located in Downtown East, yeah the place where most people come for their chalets. But I can walk there from my home. Boo youuuu~

How to get there?

From East-West MRT line, alight at Pasir Ris station. It's just a 8 mins walk away. Or take some buses from the bus interchange.

At the entrance, you'll see Pastamania and Tiamo(further down in this picture) restaurant and desert shop with outdoor corners. I like the relaxing outdoor-sy feel.

And this huge Cadbury Faris wheel which is the main highlight of the mall.

Ah~! Love it!

I'll take a ride one day, eating Cadbury, wouldn't it be nice?

Level 2(Straight when you enter the mall):

Since I was starving, I headed down to this HongKong cafe-restaurant for lunch.

Verdict: "Fruity Snow" quencher.

Basically, it's longan ice blended with black sago(as you can see in the picture) and it certainly adds to the whole taste of it. I suppose without it, it would not be a 2-in-1 drink and dessert, plus the longan itself will taste too sugar-y if drank on its on (If you actually understand what I was just blabbering about).

Verdict: Shrimp Soup Noodles or literally translated from Chinese as, Street Shrimp Dumpling Noodle soup.
Not surprising that the Shrimp Dumplings were good, includes whole fresh shrimps, and bamboo shoots for added crunch and traces of mushroom slices. Soup was kinda too bland and vegetables slightly over cooked.

What else do we have there?

Yogurt Place: I was hoping to try this after lunch but was too full so no verdict on the yogurt yet.

No regrets trying out this Tea shop called Cup Walker. Unlike local bubble tea shops. Their menu boasts a wide variety of drinks made with wholesome natural ingredients.

The concept of the store with the glasses hanging at the counter means that each cup is hand blended like how they would in a bar.

If you do have a chance, do try their Flower fruit tea. It is imported from Europe and smells absolutely like haven.

I tried the Salty Plum Lime juice that was recommended by the Manager. $2.20 for a bigger than usual cup(think its 0.8-1L). Refreshing and not-too-sweet.

Than I found a cute looking coffee house that serves thick toast with kaya or peanut butter.

They even have kaya fondue!

Apparently, Kopi Alley already have a few outlets island wide.

I ordered an ice coffee but sadly, the blend was still not rich enough for particular me.

Level 3:

Explorer kid which is like a huge indoor theme park for kids wasn't open for the day yet, but I managed to take some photos via riding up and down the escalator and through the see-through panels.

Level 4:

Some push cart stalls were already fully set up. Check out these two:

1) Melody Classic that sells nail care and accessories.

Need to get one of those pet bottles that can hold nail colour remover. It can squirt upwards to easily clean off errors especially when doing nail art. And check out these earrings, the flower ones are made of clay. So cute.

2) Mamavintage that sells one-of-a-kind apparel from Hong Kong. The good thing is, the owner only import limited pieces.

It's so annoying that everyone's wearing the same type of "in" season look every time. Singaporeans really need to explore more individual style and THAT GOES FOR HAIRSTYLES TOO!

Level 1(kinda like the Basement):

Fresh Bulggogi is actually a Korean restaurant. Somehow the thing that caught my attention was the look; seemed like a Japanese restaurant or optic shop. Ok I know its a weird mix. Anyway I would try this the next time cos I saw reviews that made me feel like eating Korean and their juices seem so good.

Oooooooooooooh! Full House restaurant made me think of the show itself and inevitably Rain the Korean celebrity!

Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence is a 1983 film with the above as theme song and directed by Nagisa Oshima. It tells a tale of homosexuality during WWII.

OCha Cha (Green tea cafe)@ Raffles city

For the past week, all I was thinking about was Green tea.

Green tea latte, Green tea ice cream, Green tea milk candy, Green tea frappe... Even my boyfriend didn't seem appealing anymore. Hur hur no, just kidding.

Realised that my favourite purfume is also Green tea fragrance from L'Occitane.

So finally, I lured my colleagues LJ and Ray for a cuppa on Friday by promising a treat. Hee Hee Hee! Okay not to look pathetically, loser-ly as though I'm so desperate, LJ insisted on paying for our cab fair home once from a party and Ray helped my to create my website logo without wanting payment so I offered this treat to say THANK YOU!

How to get there?

Take the MRT, alight at "City Hall" station, walk straight up the escalator and you are in Raffles city. OCha Cha is in the basement.

My order, it's hot green tea latte infused with something.

Verdict: Taste very good when hot but too bland when cold.

Both LJ and Ray ordered the signature OCha Cha. It's chilled matcha latte.

Verdict: No wonder the signature, tastes better than my hot version and even better than what other popular cafes in the market offer. Serious!

Verdict: Deception-ally soft and fluffy. Really soft, like almost melt-in-my-mouth.

Interior settings

Clean and spacious. However, I would like to feedback that there should be more lazy chairs, perhaps business is too good that's why seats are limited. The table right in the middle should go cos it's right in the centre of attention and we were feeling weird.

Favourite Pork rib noodles@ Chinatown

Addicted to this store for weeks, I must really recommend it.

Located at the hawker centre where most retired old folks hang out. I would always drop by after my Sunday dressmaking class for a late lunch.

How to get there?

Take the North East purple line MRT to "Chinatown" station. Exit via "exit A". You'll see the hawker centre immediately when you emerge from the escalator. The second level sells all the cloth for dressmaking, in case you're not sure if it's the correct place.

The place

Famed for its good food, there are soooooo many stores to choose from.

Even if you can't find this store, I'm sure you'll get something good too.

When you enter from the direction of the MRT to the left entrance, you'll walk past a popular fruit store(very popular, don't know why maybe cos the whether is always damn hot there). I'll always grab my usual watermelon automatically too. Weird! Okay then turn left and the second store is it!

What do they have there?

Owned by Mainland Chinese, they sell ramen ( called "La Mian" in Chinese) with different ingredients, dry or soup. Chinese ramen are hand-made using flour and water and have a soft and smooth consistency which makes the swallowing part so enjoyable.

Other than that, they also have slice fish bee hoon. Variations of this includes fresh fish or fried fish slices; seafood and tom yum soup.

Dumplings; boiled or pan fried plus other side dishes are also available.

Okay let me get down to business.

Served with raw veggies, generous pork ribs and fresh whole mushrooms in thick sauce.

The pork ribs are cooked just right, soooo tender, just a bite and the whole piece of meat slides off the bone easily.

I slurp down the noodles every time.

Wow! Certainly did not regret taking leave for this show.

Considering the timing, I thought not many people would actually turn up, but the place was jammed packed when I got there.

Okay ladies! Place a tissue on your table first to hold your saliva...

Siren-like lighting kept me at the edge of my chair, especially since I was sitting at the last row.
Damn it!

First walk: He came out with a jacket looking all dressed up and I wondered if I read the event description properly.
Shouldn't it be a brief runway show?
Until he took it off halfway through the walk, revealing only briefs and fetish-looking collar and tie.

All our jaws dropped amongst the applause.

I want my man to look like this(above). Sooooo cute!

Runway demigod, Marcus Schenkenberg finally made his grande entrance.

To Christina Aguilera's "CandyMan", the next few models came out in matching sailor's outfits.

Feasting our eyes once again as the guys strutted in unison for the ending.

Carlos Miele from Brazil presented such a romantic show that till now 14 April, I still can't stop humming to " The girl from Ipanema".that was played.

Initially I was quite bothered before the show.

Me and my colleagues didn't manage to hail a cab till about 7:45pm, and we should be seated by 8pm! Luckily we arrived at the right time.

Second, queueing outside the tent till 8:30pm made me hot and uncomfortable.

But as usual, like what Anne said " You're made for this". The show left me with goosebumps and a breezy feel that I could prance upon. Once again I shall repeat " I am made for this"! Arg! shiok, I am so sure of this that I can't be any surer.

Stop Menstrual Cramps NOW!

Set to achieve the fullest in life, the new age women has so much to juggle on her plate.
Family, spouse, career, friends, children, housework etc.
Be it skipping a day at work, school or outing, menstrual cramps definitely have to go cause nobody likes their daily schedule interrupted.

The common frequency that I've witness my friends endure spurred me to contribute this.
The medical term for menstrual cramp is called Dysmenorrhea.

Symptoms

Contracting, spasm-like pain of the abdomen. The pain could also extend to the pelvis, lower back and spin. Mild discomfort like a strained muscle feeling could also be felt along the lower part of the abdomen, vaginal and inner thighs. Sometimes in bad cases, the person might get headaches, nauseous and even diarrhea.

Why?About 50% of female population experience Dysmenorrhea. 10-15% of ladies would experience unbearable pain that enough to affect their daily lives. This is caused by a type of hormones called prostaglandins. They are released to contract the uterus muscles to pass the menstrual fluids out of the body.Women who experience more severe pain are caused by higher levels of prostaglandins released or are more sensitive to it.Secondary Dysmenorrhea might be caused by medical disorder or inflammation associating with the uterus. If you suspect that you have Secondary Dysmenorrhea problems, do consult a doctor fast, least the problem gets worst.

Natural cures

Personally, if possible, I would always opt for safe natural remedies to any problems.

Evening primrose oil (EPO)!

Ever heard of it? Available in most pharmacies, follow the recommended intake on the instruction sheet of your brand for best results. Suitable for daily consumption, mine suggests 1-2 capsules daily and 3-4 during menstrual week. A few friends that I've recommended in the past related positive relieve from Dysmennorrhea!

Other potential benefits and cures- helps to maintain healthy, skin, nails and hair- boosts immune system- maintains healthy blood pressure- from rashes and Eczema, a kind of allergy that causes scaly, itchy skin patches. My Papa says that it is also caused by toxins in the blood in Chinese medical view. These toxins are caused by smoking, drinking and eating too much of say, Char Kweay Thew? But do note that it's TOO MUCH, not cannot eat. What I do believe is to exercise regularly to promote more blood circulation and oxygen in in our bloodstream.- from breast pain and mood swings etc. during pre-menstrual period- from menopause symptoms like hot flashes (Note that many medical institute has not confirmed this or got mixed results)- and most recently, Arthritis and cancer (although again not confirmed until further tests are out)About EPO, concise.- These capsules are packed with Gammalinolenic acid (GLA), and I love pronouncing this word actually. Hee.. It's a rare essential fatty acid that our body cannot produced on it's own.- Some brands might also contain Vitamin E with it's capsules that could contribute to better skin, hair and nails.- Evening Primroses are native North American plants that are also cultivated on Europe. Mostly yellow in color with 4 petals and blooms in the evening.- EPO should be best kept in the refrigerator to prevent the oil from turning rancid(decomposing oil)

A simple lunch @Cherie Pan

Within walking distance from Bugis MRT station, Cherie Pan is located within the row of shop houses along Tan Quee Lan street, The Heritage Place.

About Cherie Pan:

I was first attracted to the 3 shop spaces that it occupied.
Each shop boosts 3 different services;
1st, a restaurant(Cherie Pan);
2nd, a massage parlour(CherieSpa)
and 3rd, a child care and learning centre(Cherie Hearts Learning Hub).

At first confused and then intrigue by this business idea, I admire companies that go the extra mile to care for people or the environment. In fact, I have dreamt of owning a boutique that serves high tea too. Well anyway, not that it's important now.

The 3 joint shops; now that I did some reading up; is actually a project called D'escapade INC. A subsidiary founded by Cherie Hearts Group International, an education centre for elementary children age 2-12 years old.

I say Bravo! for this good idea.

The Time:

Went down on a Saturday afternoon about 3:30pm after my sewing class.

The Ambient:

I was greeted with the vibrant colors of the place and also this helpful waiter. The interior was just the perfect combination of my lazy mood that day.

Chose a window seat with the above bamboo decor.

The Savoury:

Okay wait... Need to quench my thirst badly first before anything else.

Verdict: Garden Salad
Slightly sweeter in taste as compared to traditional dressings. Taste ( and smell) of fresh olive oil. Hmm! Has the Ang Moh standard, as ingredients are imported(deduction), fresh and crisp.

Something that differs it from other garden salads is the additional pamelo and orange sacs chunks that of course, makes the taste more tangy.

Verdict: Rosemary Lamb shank
Sauce is fragrant and delicious, the tomatoes and raw herb were used to smartly cut the lamb smell. Meat is tender but could go a little softer with heavier broth aroma.
Serving portion made me happy, sufficient generosity is the key.

Verdict: Egg pudding
Fooled by the surface, the inside is soft, creamy and eggy!
Sweetness is concentrated on top which is infused with Maple syrup to compliment the sutler taste inside. Stuffed with generous raisins to provide good O' dietary fibre and antioxidant.

Verdict: Decaffeinated latte. 3.5 stars out of 5. Arh! enjoyed my afternoon really!

To me, decaffed coffee always taste slightly bland as compared to normal coffee, is it just me or does anyone feel the same way?

Like the pretty packaging of the sugar packs.

Never would I imagine myself at SFF this year.
Thought it was only for the rich and famous et aussi by invites.
Convinced by the above thought or that perhaps each ticket would cost $100-$200. I just casually checked out the SFF website for details and I WAS WRONG! :D

Just really glad I checked things out and managed to get tickets for $10-$50 each. Ok enjoy my pictures.

Since it was my maiden attendance, my heart was thumping softly as I gazed upon the people like a young child amongst the "real" adults.

La forketta @ Dempsey road

Dempsey, Dempsey Dempsey! Definitely one of my favourite places to enjoy my dreamy weekend. Located slightly west of Singapore somewhere between Queenstown and Orchard MRT station, this place is hidden well from the main road (Holland/Napier road) and boasts an inviting serenity.

Some trivial nerdy info:
According to my only source from now (Ben used to play soccer here), it used to be quite lifeless here just a few years ago. Until some smart businessman developed it into such a cool spot for mainly ang mohs, corporate executives and PMEBs.

Fresh sights for locals

I am amazed by a few grocery shops cum restaurants that stock up their particular country's goodies like Jones the Grocer. This Australian restaurant is a "supermarket" inside and you could also order Australian platters while seated outside.

Resting after 30mins... (yes I am picky about where I wanna eat and Ben was annoyed)

After a a 45mins hunt for the perfect place to suit our day's appetite, we settle down at this Italian restaurant.

La Forketta

Ben loved the spacious interior design of the exposed the attic...

...while I was looking forward to quench my thirst. Hot day! Bread was served first in mixed variety. We ended up snatching up to the last piece!

Verdict: Bread basket (compulsary)Consist of : 1 x pita bread with oil
Baked multi-grain slices
Plain slices
4 x crunchy bread sticks

Taste - Very authentic European flavour, able to tell the difference in taste even from local high class bakeries. Breaksticks taste like cornflake flavour to me. Yumm! One piece actually looks like pita/naan dabbed with olive oil. I thought I would find it greasy but it was great! Wished I had more of that. Overall very fresh, very moist and more cereal-like(that is the European taste to me).

As usual, drinking all his water before the the meal.

Primavera Salad.

Verdict: Primavera Salad
Ingredients - Vegetables are imported ones and very fresh.

Taste - Dressing was appetizing. Sour and only slightly sweet to taste, very citrus-y actually and the olive oil was moderate.

I ordered a seafood linguine in tomato sauce.

Verdict: Seafood linguine in tomato sauceIngredient & Taste - This is one of the best seafood pasta I've had, Seriously no kidding! Okay to convince and please don't drool... not only was the seafood generous (half crayfish, 4-5 mussels, 1 FRESH scallop, calamari, medium juicy prawns, fish slices and heaps of clams) the pasta was totally infused with the "sweetness" of the seafood! So it seemed like they cook the pasta in seafood broth. OMG! Adding to that, the tomato sauce puree is made from fresh cherry tomatos. When I finished the linguine, there was still enough fresh clams to savour.

Meat Lasagna.

Verdict: Meat Lasagna
Ingredient - Apart from meat, 1 layer of it is also stuffed with blended/chopped vegetable (probably spinach) so it breaks the all-meaty flavour, adding more variation in taste.

Taste - Fresh is all I can say. The dough is probably made 10mins before cooking to produce the no-preservative-melt-in-your-mouth sensation.

Ben said " This is very good! By far one of the best I've tasted in Singapore (taste as good as back home in Europe).

All in all, although the price was slightly on the expensive side but I think it's definitely worth it. I was really glad that we were not disappointed after the long hunt in the sun.

Farewell for 5 years to our cheermate! @Café Del Mar

Hosted a farewell party for my friend, Hong on 9 Feb 08, Saturday. He has already left for Australia by now to further his studies that will take him approximately 5 years! Sob. Was my only single base partner and now, with him gone, I can't do it no more...

Of course, most of us cheerleaders turned up at Café Del Mar since it was an important day. He he! We were supposed to meet at 3pm to do whatever-whatever at sentosa but most of us were late. That includes me who reached at erm... 6pm. Long story aside (cough)... We had great fun! Let the pictures do the talking.

By evening, all of us arrived and started to order dinner.

And let our camwhoring begin...

Then the "official"(boozing) party started.

Although some mamas probably started "unofficially" at about 4:30pm I guess. Hee~

Mun got her Birthday present.

And Dee Dee got her present too!

Lastly, Hong~~ He couldn't finish reading all the notes because it was just too emotional for everyone. Sob.

After dinner workout keeps us in shape!

But we can't slack with just one workout, we need round two!
Foam party! YAY!
